Cap Malheureux

Discover the Church of Notre Dame De Auxiliatrice also known as the red roof church located at Cap Malheureux also translated as “Unfortunate/Unhappy Cape , by which a large amount of persons and tourist are attracted with, located ten minutes from Grand Bay. The chapel was found in 1938 and is devoted to The Virgin Mary. It is a breathtaking church and some also find it an ideal place to do photoshoots as it offers awesome views of the five islets whch includes Coin de Mire (Gunner’s Quoin).

Botanical Garden

The Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanic Garden dates back to the French period. In 1736, the French governor, Mahé de Labourdonnais, chose to set up his domain around the present Main Gate at Pamplemousses. In 1767 of the French Intendent, Pierre Poivre introduced vegetables, fruits and flowers from all over the world.

Sockalingum Meenatchee Ammen Kovil

The Hindu temple Shri Sockalingum Meenatchee Ammen, also known as the Kaylasson Temple, is the most important Tamil place of worship of Mauritius. Situated at Sainte-Croix, its splendid traditional architecture, with a Dravidian style from the south of India, rises in the sky of this northern suburb of Port-Louis.

Port Louis Central Market

The Port Louis Central Market is right next to the Immigration square or better known by locals, “la gare du nord”. To visit preferably early in the morning to admire the stalls of fruits and vegetables leaving evaporating exhilarating and spicy perfumes. Rebuilt in recent years following the fire that devastated the original market, the Market has nonetheless kept its typical atmosphere where sellers are auctioning the price of their goods.
The central market of Port Louis is one of the oldest sites on the island (more than 2 centuries). Whatever the time of year, this market on Queen Street near the Central Bus Station is open every day. Prized by the Mauritians, there are fruits and vegetables in abundance throughout the year of irreproachable quality.

Caudan Waterfront

Le Caudan Waterfront is a must-visit destination inaugurated on 25 November 1996. Named after the 18 th century French explorer, Jean Dominique Michel de Caudan, the establishment has earned a fine reputation. This forerunner in the retail and leisure landscape has all the essentials for an exciting visit. Built on a site rich in history, it enjoys a spectacular view over the Port Louis harbour. The Food Court, which once housed the Indian Ocean’s first meteorological and astronomical observatory, is a must-see! The shopping areas are filled with rich memories of a gunpowder magazine, warehouses, docks and a shipyard.
